ABOUT
ELEMENTS OF PLAY RECOVERS MATERIALS FROM PLACES OF PLAY — FROM FLOORING AND SEATING TO GRANDSTANDS AND EQUIPMENT.
We look at sports infrastructure before it becomes waste. We are interested in what is already there — the materials, components and structures, their construction, traces of use, histories and potential for reuse.
WE ARE INTERESTED IN WHAT REMAINS WHEN A PLACE OF PLAY CHANGES, CLOSES OR DISAPPEARS.
Our work begins with the material itself. Construction, condition, quantity, dimensions and dismantlability determine what can be recovered and how it might be put back into use. Not everything can or should be preserved. Each material requires its own assessment and approach.
Elements of Play brings together experience in sport, design, architecture, project development and hands-on material work. We understand sports facilities not simply as buildings, but as collections of individual elements that can be examined, separated, recovered and put back into circulation.
Recovering materials can also reduce dismantling and disposal costs, depending on their condition, quantity and location. We assess these possibilities individually, working with what is actually there.
The materials, structures and their histories become the starting point for new spaces, applications and products — in sport and beyond.
WHAT WE DO
ASSESS
We research, document and evaluate existing sports facilities, their materials and potential for reuse. From individual components to entire structures, we identify what is available and develop strategies for recovery.
RECOVER
We plan and coordinate selective dismantling, sorting, transport, storage and preparation. Each process responds to the specific characteristics of the material and the conditions of the site.
REUSE
We make recovered materials available for new applications through documentation, brokerage and direct sale. We work with designers, architects, makers, organisations and individuals interested in giving existing elements a new use.
